ADRN’s #1 Training is Back! Cricital Incident Stress Management Training (CISM):

Critical Incident Stress Management Training (CISM – March 23rd (6PM-10PM & March 24th (9AM-5PM): ADRN highly recommends this internationally recognized training for volunteers who are called to help people in times of crisis and/or called to the mission field. This training will equip participants to deal with the mental, emotional and spiritual issues most people encounter in times of disaster, including trauma, learning debriefing techniques and much more. The training will be presented by Melissa Slagle, a consultant and International Trainer, who has been called out to help disaster victims world-wide in almost every major disaster since Mount St. Helen.  Melissa is a Certified Traumatic-Stress Specialist (CTS), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), and a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT). All participants will receive an internationally recognized certificate of completion in Disaster Psychological 1st Aid and CISM/CISD (Critical Incident Stress Management/Critical Incident Stress Debriefing). This training is also recommended for teens 16 years of age and above and for the elderly. ADRN’s #1 Volunteer Need is the Disaster Relief Shepherd position:

Disaster Relief Shepherd (DRS) Training (March 22nd): The DRS is one of ADRN’s most important leadership roles a volunteer can play within their church in times of disaster. The DRS’s job is to be willing to walk along side a family that has potentially lost everything and needs a ‘Good Samaritan’ to be there for them through the process of recovery until their feet are back on the ground. This training will equip you with the skills, knowledge and plan to take care and provide extended assistance that cannot be given by governments or International relief agencies. 1. Debris & Ash Clean-up: We will be cleaning up approx. 2-3 homes per weekend until the end of January. Please click here to sign up for one or more Saturdays in January, to help us clean up debris and ash from a home in Bastrop.

2. Chainsaw Clean-up: ADRN is establishing a team to do tree cutting and general brush removal tasks, starting sometime in mid-late January. We will need volunteers that can operate chainsaws as well as general laborers who can assist the chainsaw operators in removing and transporting small trees and limbs. To volunteer, please email ADRN Bastrop/Spicewood Project Coordinator, John Banks at banksjg01@yahoo.com.

3. Home Construction: If you have some building skills or are interested in learning construction skills, you are perfect for this task!  ADRN is joining with the Bastrop/Spicewood Long-Term Commities tasks force of professional builders who are commited to help supervise/teach basic construction skills so general volunteers will have an opportunity to serve Christ in Bastrop and learn valuable new skills. Every home will be built from the ground up so so every phase of construction is needed (and can be taught). Help us build a resource base by contacting ADRN soon to inventory what skills we have to offer those in need. For the next 3 weekends ADRN (Austin Disaster Relief Network) will continue cleanup efforts in Bastrop.

And THEY NEED OUR HELP!

Our purpose will be to assist families in home site clean up, sifting & sorting debris. When clean up is finished, we (through ADRN) will present each family helped with a bible & pray with them.  You do NOT need to be an ADRN trained volunteer to help with the cleanup.

Some of you have already been involved, but we are asking for everyone from ONEchapel to consider helping with this effort. We would like to raise up teams of ten people each to cleanup these devastated home sites. Wouldn’t it be amazing if ONEchapel alone was able to cleanup 5 home sites in just one day!

We are choosing the last Saturday in October, the 29th, as our volunteer cleanup date. This is the weekend of Family Sunday and what better way of celebrating family than to help those families who lost everything?

So 50 people,  that’s the goal! Each team will have a team leader designated to fulfill a leadership role.  The leader will hopefully be ADRN trained.

Meeting Location: Volunteers must show up by 8:30 AM, at their assigned site, to receive specific clean-up and site safety instructions, sign volunteer waiver docs and meet the team.  ATTENDING THE 8:30AM VOLLUNTEER DEBRIEFING MEETING IS REQUIRED IN ORDER TO WORK ON-SITE AS A VOLUNTEER. 

*If you sign up to be a leader at one of the sites, your MEETING LOCATION will be at the Chestnut Square Movie Theatre (1600 Chestnut St., Bastrop) at 7:30AM. Must be ADRN trained volunteer with badge. (Please wear ADRN yellow shirt and badge, if you have them)

What to Wear: workboots or work-duty shoes, long sleeve shirt (light weight), jeans, leather gloves (NO cloth gloves), hat, sunscreen

What to Bring: lunch, water, hand sanitizer, hard hat (if you have one), M-95 (or better) breathing mask *recommended (if you have one),  a few rags (to be thrown away when done)

Special Needs (if you have, Please Bring):  3 wheelbarrows per site, flat/snow shovel, hard metal rake & push broom, sledge hammer (for certain situations), & wire cutters (for certain situations).

ONEchapel has partnered with Austin Disaster Relief Network to care for the families who have been affected by the Central Texas wildfires. Partner churches of ADRN have been asked to “adopt” or assist families that have lost their homes in the fire.

ONEchapel has been given the names of some families that need our assistance. We are honored to be called to walk alongside them in the restoration process. We’re asking small groups, families, ministry teams or individuals to consider partnering with one of these families.

Would you be willing to adopt a family?

If you would like to be involved in assisting these families get back on their feet, please notify us of this desire when you fill out this form. This is an urgent need and your prayerful, yet timely, response is necessary. You will be given more in-depth information once you notify us of your intention to help.

The overall goals with the family in need:

• Understand the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the family and help them “get back on their feet” by making sure their basic needs are met. Help them move from crisis through the first steps of recovery and to take the next step spiritually.
• The family in need sees you as the hands and feet of Jesus Christ and as part of “the church” (ADRN does not sponsor families and does not meet the needs of the family directly). As much as possible try to connect them with a church in the area they live.

ADRN is minimally looking for 100 volunteers this Saturday (10/8), from 8:30AM-2:30PM, to help clean, sift and sort debris for uninsured families, whose homes were destroyed in Bastrop. To date, ADRN’s volunteers have cleaned up close to 30 homes with an additional 170 families requesting for assistance.

Meeting Location: In order to receive a clean-up assignment, you will need to register/sign-up to a specific location by clicking here. Volunteers must show up by 8:30AM at their assigned site to receive specific clean-up and site safety instructions, sign volunteer waiver docs and meet the team.  Attending this 8:30AM volunteer debriefing meeting is required in order to work on-site as a volunteer.

Numerous families who have been impacted by the fires in Bastrop and Spicewood have expressed a desire to partner with a church to help move them from crisis mode through the first stages of recovery.  Many families in Central Texas will be struggling for months to deal with the devastating aftermath. ONEchapel is just one of many local churches involved in answering this need.

234 families affected by the fires  in Bastrop alone have been sponsored by the Church, which is amazing!  This is truly the Lord’s doing! Although we have confirmed 54 families still need assistance and would like to be sponsored.

What does “adopting a family” look like?

Here are the primary responsibilities:

•    Be the primary connection with the family
•    Assess the emotional, physical and spiritual needs of the family
•    Build a relationship with the family and help them access available resources
•    Help the family connect with a church in their community

No, partners will connect the family to available resources.

Q: How long is the partnership commitment?
The length of time will vary based on the family’s needs, but the average commitment ranges between two weeks to three months.

They are asking ADRN to help by bringing in-kind donations from their warehouses (food, dog food, bedding supplies, housing supplies, hygiene products, toys, school supplies, etc..) to bless those who lost everything.  ADRN will have a large tent for family members to browse through items at the event.  ADRN will also be deploying CISM trained volunteers, pastors and prayer teams to be available at their Emotional Care/Prayer Tents for those who want to reach out/pray for victims/families (they will need 20-30 volunteers to sign up for these positions, 5PM-10PM, click here).  ADRN will need 10 volunteers to help set up and organize the in-kind donations Tuesday morning (11AM-5PM, click here) and 20-30 volunteers to help families sort through items (5PM-10PM, click here).  To prepare for the event, ADRN will need 10 volunteers to work on Monday (10/3, 10AM-2PM) to help load the in-kind donations on to an 18-wheeler (to sign up, click here).  Monday volunteers will work at the South 360 Warehouse site (directions are on the mysignup sheet).

ADRN also has some local volunteer opportunities that are greatly needed. Even though the media coverage has slowed down about the fires, ADRN continues to be very busy and needs help!  ADRN is looking for 9-10 Call Center volunteers per day for the next 2-3 weeks.  These volunteers not only answer calls but are assigned specific assignments/projects as they pop up (click here to sign up).  ADRN is also looking for people who can make food for our 3 warehouses, administrative team and call center volunteers who are working long hours (click here to sign up).  The last great need is for warehouse volunteers for both the Georgetown Warehouse (click here) and South 360 Warehouse (click here) to help sort and package items for shipping (Tuesday & Thursday only – every week).

The need is great. We truly appreciate your help by volunteering for any of these positions.

The City of Bastrop/Americorp is telling ADRN that there is a great need for volunteers to clean up debris/rubble from homes that were destroyed by the fire a few weeks ago.  They have over 200 families that have requested for clean-up assistance (these families have no insurance coverage for clean-up).  Last week, ADRN sent over 125 volunteers, which completely cleaned up 12 homes (10 volunteers per home). This group had an amazing time meeting with families, helping them get through this tough time by cleaning up their home.  They saw tears of sadness and joy (an ADRN volunteer found a victims wedding ring in the rubble)!  Will you prayerfully consider volunteering this Saturday from 8:30AM – 2PM?  Volunteers will essentially sift, sort and stack debris with the goal of ultimately having a clean slab for builders to rebuild the home.

**For this particular clean up job, volunteers do not need to be a registered/trained ADRN volunteer.  Please share this with co-workers, friends, church members.
